Privacy policy

What we collect

Your account. Your email address, your password (stored only in scrambled, hashed form by our sign-in provider; we can't read it), the name you choose to show, who you told us you study with, and when you agreed to our terms and confirmed you're old enough to use Together.

What you write and do. Your notes, highlights and bookmarks; your answers to the questions as you read; your discussion answers; prayer requests and when you pray for someone else's; the chapters you've read and finished; your chapter checks and knowledge checks; your review cards; the memory verses you've carried; and anything you teach back.

Your groups. The groups you start or join, your role in them, their invite codes, and when and how often they meet (including a video-call link if the leader adds one).

Your membership. Whether your membership is active and when it renews. Payments are handled by Stripe: your card number goes to Stripe, never to us. We keep Stripe's reference for you so we can show and manage your membership.

A little about your device. Your time zone (so “today” and meeting times are right where you are), which days you used Together (so we can count, for example, how many people come back after four weeks), and your internet address when you look up an invite code (to stop codes being guessed). We don't collect your location beyond your time zone.

Why we use it

• To run Together: sign you in, save your work, and show you your chapters, notes, review and progress.
• To run your groups: show members where everyone is, keep discussion answers sealed until the leader opens them, and share what you choose to share.
• To charge for membership and to show and manage it.
• To send the emails the app needs, such as confirming your email address and resetting your password.
• To keep Together safe and working: prevent abuse, fix errors and understand, in totals, how it's used.

We don't sell your information, we don't share it for advertising, and there are no ads in Together.

Who can see what

Only you can see your notes, highlights, bookmarks, answers as you read, review cards, chapter checks and knowledge checks, unless you choose to share something.

People in your group can see your name; which chapters you've finished; that you read on a given day (not what you read) and that you carried a memory verse (not when); whether you've answered the discussion questions; your discussion answers once the leader opens discussion (or straight away if the leader has turned sealing off); the prayer requests you post; and anything you choose to share with them, such as a teach-back.

Prayer requests can be very personal and can say things about your faith or health. Only your group sees them. Please share only what you're comfortable with the whole group knowing.

Our team can access information when it's needed to run Together, answer a question you've asked us, or keep people safe, and only then.

The companies that help us

These services process information for us to run Together. Each may only use it to provide its service to us.

• Supabase: our database and sign-in, and the sign-in emails.
• Vercel: hosts the website, and gives us visitor counts in totals, without advertising cookies.
• Stripe: takes payments and runs the page where you manage your membership.
• Anthropic: when a group leader asks for an AI draft of a meeting recap, the group's name, its members' names and the discussion answers they've already revealed to each other are sent to Anthropic's Claude to write the draft. Private notes are never sent. The leader's pre-meeting brief uses the chapter and the group's details, never anyone's answers. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, this isn't used to train its models.
• Sentry: error reports, so we can fix what breaks. We send the error itself and strip out names, emails, cookies and what you wrote.
• An email service, if we move our emails to one: it would receive only your email address and the message.

These companies may store information in the United States or other countries where they operate. We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of Together (and we'd tell you first).

Cookies and your device

We use a few cookies to keep you signed in, to know your time zone, and to note once a day that you visited. Your device also remembers a few choices, such as dark reading, text size and hints you've closed. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while you have an account. If your membership ends, your notes stay, readable, in case you come back: we never delete your notes because a membership ended.

When you delete your account (Account, then Delete my account), we delete your account and what you've written. If you led a group, the member who joined first becomes its leader, so the group isn't lost; a group with no one else in it is removed. A meeting recap already sent to a group may still mention what you shared there. Copies may stay in our backups for a short time until they're replaced. We may keep payment records where the law requires it.

Your choices and rights

• See and download your notes any time (Notes, or Account, then Download my notes). For a copy of anything else we hold about you, email us.
• Change your password in Account. To change your name or email, or to correct anything else, email us.
• Delete your account and what you've written, any time, in Account.
• Leave any group, any time.

Wherever you live, we'll honor these requests. Depending on where you live (for example California or the European Union), the law may give you further rights, such as to object to how we use your information or to complain to a data protection authority. We don't sell or share personal information as those laws define it. Email us at help@togetherbiblestudy.com and we'll answer within 30 days.

Children

You must be 13 or older to have a Together account, and if you're under 18 you need a parent or guardian's permission. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we'll delete it. Younger children are welcome to study alongside a parent using the parent's account.

Keeping it safe

Everything travels over encrypted connections. In our database, each person can reach only their own information and what their groups share with them, and we test those rules. No system is perfect; if something goes wrong that affects you, we'll tell you.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
